At their April 24, 2017 meeting, the Roseville City Council considered consolidating the Human Rights Commission with the short-lived Community Engagement Commission and eliminating all but one mention of human rights, including from the title. The League, which has long-held, strong positions in support of human rights, opposed this change.
Between the summer of 2016 and the winter of 2017, the LWV Roseville Area conducted a study of the availability of fair and affordable housing in the communities of Roseville, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada and Maplewood. On January 21, 2017 millions of women and men around the world, including close to 100,000 in Minnesota, joined together to make their voices heard. Many now are asking “What’s Next? What can we do so we don’t lose our momentum?”
Here are some suggestions from the League of Women Voters U.S.
- Join the League of Women Voters. League is a group of engaged and caring individuals trying to make a difference in their communities.
- Register to vote, and encourage your friends to do so
- Make a donation to League
- Call/write your congressional and legislative representatives to make them aware of your views.

Ellen Shelton, research scientist with Wilder Research, made a presentation to LWV Roseville Area on November 15.
