Conversations With Constituents - January 23

What are the issues facing the 2018 Legislature? How are our communities dealing with affordable housing, health care, and budget challenges? Those questions, among other issues, are the focus of this year's "Conversations with Constituents" on Jan. 23, 2018, sponsored by the League of Women Voters, Roseville Area. Please note the location change this year:  Maplewood City Hall's Council Chambers, 1830 County Rd B East.  Mayors, County Commissioners, and State Legislators will be on hand for timely conversations.  

The conversations will begin at 7 p.m. Come early at 6:30 pm. to meet and greet. The event is free and open to the public. The public is encouraged to attend.

February 20 - 5 Cities' Affordable Housing Goals

The League of Women Voters of Roseville Area will host a panel of city officials at the Tuesday February 20 meeting. Each speaker will explain the status of their city’s affordable housing goals that are being proposed as they update their comprehensive plans. League members studied affordable housing for the past two years and advocated for local cities to include needed affordable housing in their plans that are due to the Metropolitan Council this year.

Immigrants - Participating in Minnesota's Future - Presentation

On Monday, November 13th,  Matt Schmit, former state senator and current adjunct instructor in economic competitiveness at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, discussed recent efforts undertaken in Minnesota to understand and emphasize the essential benefits of immigration to Minnesota’s workforce and economic competitiveness.  You can view the PowerPoint of his presentation here.

Universal Single-Payer Health Care in Minnesota

On Thursday, November 16, Minnesota Senator John Marty discussed his proposal for statewide universal health care. The event was sponsored by Health Care for All Minnesota, and moderated by Mindy Greiling.. VoteSmart Presents Facts Matter - November 14

Tuesday, November 14 - VoteSmart presents Facts Matter.  Richard Kimball, founder and president of VoteSmart, will be presenting an hour-long multimedia talk on how we can cut through the fog of rumor, half-truths, propaganda, and outright lies to find out what we need to know about those who represent us, or who would.  The presentation will be Tuesday, November 14th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Kenwood Community Center, 2101 W Franklin Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55405.

Women's History Lecture Series

The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library and Professor Jill Zahniser present a series of lectures on women’s history that shines a light on influential women who have made important contributions to our society and paved the way for future generations.  All lectures are at 7 pm at the Merriam Park Library.  For more information, see the website here
