March 2020 Voter

The March 2020 Voter contains information on events past and future, including:

LWVMN State Council meeting will be Saturday, April 25th in Golden Valley!  The Council will contain an abundance of information to help our local League and its committees and interests. February 2020 Voter

  • Recaps of two October events: Women in Politics and Why We Can't Afford Not to Have Health Care for All.

October 2019 Voter

Some highlights of this issue include:

  • Information about the October 8 program Why We Can't Afford Not to Have Health Care for All.  Please note that the deadline for signing up for dinner is this Thursday (October 3).
  • An article titled Education- Chicken or Egg?  by Florence Sprague  on why education can't solve all societal problems.
  • An article by Donna Peterson detailing the new organics recycling programs in Roseville and Maplewood.
  • League events scheduled for the rest of the program year.

July - August 2019 Voter

This issue of The Voter is full of information about League and its activities.  Summer isn't just vacation time for League members.  It includes

  • Invitations to volunteer on several committees of League, including Centennial celebration, the census, CMAL, action/advocacy, and as election judges
  • Upcoming programs : Brews and Book Reviews in July, ERA Legislation in August, and Better Angels in September.
  • An article by Judy Stuthman about how League became the only organization authorized to register new citizens to vote at naturalization ceremonies in Minnesota
  • Encouragement from Florence Sprague to dig more deeply into why others hold the views they do if they don't agree with your own

May-June 2019 Voter

This issue of The Voter contains articles about past and future events, including:

  • Information on the Sustainability Tour at Macalester College's Markim Hall on June 5
  • The CMAL Annual Meeting on June 1 at the Ridgedale Library
  • Planning for a LWV Roseville Area presence in local summer parades
  • Recaps of April and May meetings and programs
  • An article by Florence Sprague on startiing discussions on health care from a place of agreement.  Or, as Florence puts it, "Step back from the most hotly-contested position to find the underlying common ground and build from there."

April 2019 Voter

Included in the April 2019 Voter are articles about:

  • Recaps of the excellent programs held in March (Elder Abuse, Civic Literacy 101 and the Becoming American film/discussion
  • An introspective message from Florence Sprague on the polarizing impact of certain words and communications, and the work of the organization Better Angels to provide opportunities to dialog.  In light of this, Florence faces a dilemma in how to discuss equity without using polarizing language.  That discussion will be continued in the next Voter.
  • A call for program ideas for the 2019-20 year.  Send them to Bonnie Koch, Program Committee chair.
  • Descriptions of the many events coming up in April and later.  

February 19 Voter

The February issue of the Voter contains information about many upcoming events that LWV Roseville Area is sponsoring:

  • February 14 - fourth in the Becoming American film series at the Shoreview Ramsey County Library (co-sponsors Do Good Roseville and Ramsey County LIbrary
  • February 19 - Presentation and discussion of report by CMAL on the Metropolitan Council, including consensus questions
  • February 19 - A breakfast co-sponsored with Suburban Ramsey Family Collaborative to promote their new housing initiative for homeless students "Homework Starts at Home"
  • March 5 and April 2 - Civic Literacy 101, co-sponsors Do Good Roseville and Roseville Library
