Climate Change and Forests in Minnesota - Alternative Futures - February 22, 2021

The LWVRA is pairing with several regional groups and organizations to sponsor a talk by Dr Lee Frelich, UM Director of Forest Ecology on Monday, February 22 at 7 pm.  Dr. Frelich will examine the effect of climate change on Minnesota forests.  He notes, “Forests in Minnesota have dramatically different futures depending on the CO2 emissions scenario that we follow as a society. For the business as usual scenario, the state would lose all of the boreal forest (cold climate conifer and birch forests of northern MN), and much of the state would support prairies rather than forests by 2070. For a low emissions scenario forests would experience much smaller changes, with some boreal forest remaining in the north.”

Co-sponsors are Resilient Roseville, a local climate action group, Ramsey County Library, the Sierra Club, and Resilient Roseville.  Registration is open to all, and is live through this Ramsey County Library link: https://rclreads.bibliocommons.com/events/5fce89251d94912f00a975f6
