This year’s holiday party will be a spectacular and fun event that is not to be missed! Since we are celebrating 100 years of the League of Women Voters, the Centennial Committee has planned a special evening for you with great music, delicious food and theater. Everyone will receive a commemorative lapel pin.

Legalizing Equality - Is the ERA Still Needed? August 20

The Equal Rights Amendment was first proposed in 1923 by suffragist Alice Paul and was finally approved by the House of Representatives in 1971 and the Senate the following year.  It needed ratification by 38 state legislatures, but by the deadline in 1982 only 35 had.  Since then two more states have ratified it.  ERA Minnesota is part of a movement to extend the deadline and convince one more state to back the amendment.

Brews and Book Reviews - July 24

The League of Women Voters Roseville Area is hosting their third annual Brews and Book Reviews event on Wednesday, July 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Bent Brewstillery, 1744 Terrace Drive, Roseville (between Lincoln Drive and Fairview Ave.)

Attendees are encouraged to bring a book to recommend to others for summer reading.  Craft beers and non-alcoholic drinks are available for purchase.

Sustainability Field Trip to Macalester College - June 5

The Sustainability Tour at Macalester College Markim Hall (1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul) is scheduled for 10 a.m. on June 5. The building features native landscaping, energy efficiency, water conservation, and solar panels. For these reasons and more it has been certified as LEED Platinum, the highest level of certification for energy efficiency and environmental design by the U.S. Green Building council. Transportation details will be relayed in the May/June Voter newsletter, and will include options to either carpool or take public transportation.

Climate Change Program - April 16

On Tuesday, April 16, the League of Women Voters Roseville Area will host Changes in the Weather - What’s the Big Deal?, a presentation by Dr. Kenneth Blumenfeld, Senior Climatologist for the Minnesota State Climatology Office.

Dr. Blumenfeld will discuss what Minnesotans can expect to experience in the next decades based on the best available science.  As a climatologist, Dr. Blumenfeld provides state agencies, communities and citizens with up-to-date and scientifically accurate climate information.
